Ready to turn out
Advice
Keep your vehicle maintained and road-legal, and prepare before you turn out: fuel, kit, food and drink. On task, wear your hi-vis, keep your radio with you, give control your ETA, and log your mileage and locations. Act professionally — the group's reputation rides with every vehicle.
Your safety and that of others is always paramount. Never carry out any action that may endanger your own or others' health and safety.
Vehicle insurance
Tell your insurer that you use the vehicle for voluntary work. The larger insurers typically cover it under social, domestic & pleasure at no extra cost — members have had this confirmed by Adrian Flux, NFU, Sureterm and Asda. The ABI's volunteer-driving commitment is the reference if they hesitate.
citizenAID
citizenAID teaches the public how to react and give immediate care in deliberate mass-casualty incidents. Worth every member's time.
